Howdy y'all

Typing is a little uncomfortable at the moment as my hand is still feeling a little stiff from yesterday's guillotining exercise. It seems bizarre and stupid to me that I am whinging after two days of using a device that I'm sure some people use all and every day. I think there's something amiss in my technique. Hopefully I won't have too many opportunities to improve it in the future.

Today has been a cool day. I was concious when it began on the stroke of midnight as I went to a 21st birthday party last night. Even though I didn't know the birthday boy very well, it was nice to see him and I had a good time. More importantly I'm pretty sure he had a good time too. Happy birthday Chris!

The party was followed by too few hours of sleep, after which I woke up (surprising? I thought so.) and went to our new church property to help with fixing it up. We have bought an old drive-in movie theatre -- a story in itself -- and although we're able to meet there now thanks to some renovations, there's still a fair bit of work left to be done. Today's tasks included painting and the annoying job of picking up sticks and hoeing out roots in the areas which need to be mowed. This has to be done so the mower blades don't make a horrible grinding and grating noise... it also stops the blades from being damaged. I was in my element wielding the mattock and taking anything that looked remotely like a semi-exposed root system to task. Yaay for destroying native flora!

Afterwards my sisters and I tripped off to the *local* shopping centre with a friend to buy presents for one of my sisters who is very soon to turn 18 (how old does that make me feel?). We ditched the soon to be legal adult with a couple of her friends and ventured off in a quest for a few wow-worthy gifts. A couple of hours later we had made a few purchases, all of which I'm sure she'll like. I personally haven't found her a pressie yet but I have another week and a few ideas in mind

Those were basically the highlights of the day. I guess I shouldn't neglect to mention a couple of other things about the day. For example I discovered a number of cool French phrases today whilst browsing in Angus & Robertson: I learned (and then promptly forgot, much to my dismay) how to proposition someone, accuse someone they were only using me for sex and how to squeal "Easy tiger!" and "Oh yeah!". Phrases I don't seriously plan to use in the foreseeable future, whether in English or French, but spiffy things to know nonetheless. I think I might go back and buy the book.

Ordinarily around now I would launch into some soapbox speech about a random topic that I'd been thinking about recently, like the effects of rampant alcoholism on Russian society or the overuse of Impulse deodorant among Grade 8 girls (and Lynx in Grade 10 boys). But, while they are both valid and explorable topics that I have pondered before and will no doubt delve into some time, tonight I think that's a wrap. Nothing personal, I'm just running on too little sleep at the moment and I will need a good night's sleep to face the ordeals of tomorrow. It's the kick-off of Kidz Supa Church for the year and my team are no doubt only just emerging from 9 weeks of hibernation from Not Listening to Tegan. I'm not bossy (much) but I do try to run a tight ship.

Why do I always apologise for the way I am? Maybe it's because I generalise about myself and then see how what I say could be taken another way, so I qualify what I have said. So really that's not apologising, but it seems that way sometime. Anyway, I'm not going to apologise for being apologetic (or just seeming that way). I yam what I yam.

Where was I? Oh yeah, my beautiful team of kids' workers. Tomorrow will be fun, getting back into the swing again, but I have to be sharp to make sure everything runs well. I was going to say "fingers crossed" but I can go one better than that -- I've already prayed! Everything I do is for God anyway, so I know I can trust Him with it. Zippee!

Drive safely, the road has feelings too,

Teegs

I want to learn random french!

I've already purchased the 'Amelie' DVD... it has subtitles at least.

... just LOVE the accent.
