Today's one of those beautiful grey days -- brooding and a little dim but with only sporadic sprinklings of rain. Even though it's the kind of weather that begs to be enjoyed from beneath a blanket on the couch (hot chocolate and a good book optional), it's welcome by me even on a work day like today.

My day at work has been a pleasant one so far. This morning was an early start with a shorthand class -- second time and happily improving! Then I came here for a day of crafting stories, almost all of which are finished now, ready to be put on the page and printed tomorrow. I wasn't quite happy with last week's edition, which I think had more to do with my attitude when I was writing (tired and frustrated) than the actual output but I'm trying to be constructively critical of my own work and make improvements. This week's improvement point was to make my sentences and stories longer. I also tried to finish things earlier so I wouldn't reduce the quality of my work by rushing it and so I had time to proofread. So far that aim is being acheived which I'm very happy about. I really want to improve as a journalist as much as I can as quickly as I can. I don't want to be mediocre at what I do; I want to be a wordsmith. Someday I really would like to edit a magazine but I'm up against plenty of competition for those positions. I need to work hard now if I'm going to get there. Even if I don't though, I want to do the best job I can in what I'm doing.

The work side of work aside, I'm beginning to settle in more and make my space my own. I've got the Vespa logo as the background on my computer desktop and I bought some star-shaped stickers from the local discount store which are now adorning my monitor. Behind me I'm beginning a "cool pictures" collection on the wall. I've brought in my mug and it's matching tile that serves as a coaster to keep me company and feed me Milo (when it hasn't run out, as it has at the moment). Then there's the usual Tegan mess strewn around me. Perfect.

On that note, let me leave it there and get back to finishing today's stories. Have a nice day and, if you're lucky enough to be in the magical land of Briswich, enjoy the rain.

I am not in Briswich, I'm in Edinburgh (South Australia), but I too have a grey day with the occasional burst of sunlight breaking valiantly through the clouds. It is very much hot chocolate on the couch by the heater weather, but work isn't so bad despite the scattered piles of documents cluttering the desk. I work with nice people, and I find what I do interesting. You're right - life is pretty nice, really.
